Custom Waterproof Bag FAQ

The twenty questions buyers ask before a first order — MOQ, sampling, lead time, payment, inspection and shipping — answered in plain numbers.

This page answers the commercial questions that decide whether a custom waterproof bag programme goes ahead: what the minimum is, how long sampling and bulk take, how payment works, what inspection standard applies and what it costs to land the goods. Every answer states the number rather than a range of possibilities, because a sourcing decision needs figures you can plan against. If your question is not here, the technical detail lives in the buying guides or you can ask us directly.

QUANZHOU JUNYUAN BAGS: custom waterproof bag production since 2014, 4,950 m² SGS-verified facility, MOQ 500 pieces per style, sampling in 6–10 working days and bulk in 35–50 days, FOB Xiamen. That single sentence is the commercial spine of every project below — the rest of this page explains what each clause means in practice and where a programme can flex.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What is the minimum order quantity for custom waterproof bags?

The standard minimum order quantity is 500 pieces per style. One style means one combination of material, construction and dimensions; colourways within that style are usually combined to reach 500 pieces. Lower quantities are possible for simple promotional totes or pouches where existing tooling applies, and we quote those case by case. Because 500 pieces is the threshold at which a welding line can run a style without excessive changeover waste, it is also the point where unit price stops falling steeply. The full reasoning behind the threshold is covered in our MOQ guide.

Q2. Can I order a sample before committing to bulk production?

Yes, and we recommend it. A pre-production sample is built on the actual production tooling with the actual fabric, weld parameters and print method, so what you test is what you will receive. The sample fee is quoted with the project and is credited back against the bulk order when you proceed. The first round of revisions is free; a second rebuild after a design change is quoted at cost. What arrives in the box, and how to test it, is set out in what to expect from a custom sample.

Q3. How long does sampling take?

Sampling takes 6–10 working days from approved artwork and confirmed specification. Simple styles with stock fabric land at the short end; styles needing a Pantone-matched fabric run, a custom woven label or a new waterproof zipper sourcing step land at the long end. Express sampling in about five working days can be arranged when fabric is in stock. Sample shipping by courier adds three to five days door to door.

Q4. What is the bulk production lead time?

Bulk production runs 35–50 days after sample approval and deposit. The range depends on fabric lead time, print complexity and line loading at the time of booking. Peak-season slots — roughly March to July for Northern Hemisphere summer programmes — fill first, so booking early secures the short end of the range. Reorders on stored patterns typically run faster because cutting files, weld parameters and print screens already exist. The day-by-day breakdown is in our lead time guide.

Q5. What payment terms do you accept?

The standard terms are T/T with 30% deposit and 70% balance against a copy of the bill of lading, or against the pre-shipment inspection report for buyers who require it. Irrevocable L/C at sight is accepted for container-scale orders. First-time orders start on T/T; established accounts can be reviewed for open terms after several clean shipments. Sample fees are paid in full before sampling starts. Documentary credit mechanics are explained in the T/T and L/C guide.

Q6. Do you ship DDP, and to which countries?

Yes. We ship DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) to more than 100 countries, which means one quoted landed price covers export declaration, freight, destination duties, customs clearance and last-mile delivery to your warehouse. There is no duty invoice arriving after the goods. Air and express consolidation is available for urgent programmes while bulk stays on ocean freight. HS classification is prepared under the WCO HS Nomenclature, and the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin are issued as standard.

Q7. Can you quote FOB or CIF instead of DDP?

Yes. FOB Xiamen is our baseline quotation. CIF to your named port and DDP to your door are both available, and we quote all three so you can compare landed cost on equal footing. Buyers with their own freight forwarder or a bonded warehouse usually take FOB; buyers without an import setup usually take DDP. Incoterms 2020 definitions apply to all three, and the term is stated on the proforma invoice so there is no ambiguity about where risk transfers. The comparison is worked through in the Incoterms guide.

Q8. How much does a custom waterproof bag cost per unit?

Unit price is driven by five variables: fabric and film thickness, construction route — welded costs more than stitched-and-taped but performs better — closure hardware, decoration method and quantity. A simple promotional drawstring tote sits at the low end; a 1.0 mm TPU roll-top dry bag with a waterproof zipper and a welded window sits at the high end. Rather than publishing a price list that will not match your spec, we price against a tech pack and return a quotation within 24–48 hours. The line-by-line structure is broken out in the cost breakdown.

Q9. What artwork files do you need for printing or embroidery?

For print we prefer vector files: AI, EPS, PDF or SVG with text converted to outlines. For embroidery we need a DST file or clean vector artwork for digitising. Raster artwork is accepted at 300 dpi or higher at final print size. Supply Pantone references for each colour and specify placement with dimensions in millimetres. We return a digital mock-up for approval before any screen or plate is made — the full checklist is in how to submit design files.

Q10. Can you match my brand Pantone colour?

Yes. Fabric is lab-dipped and matched to your Pantone reference, and approval is given on a physical lab dip under D65 lighting rather than on a screen. A commercially acceptable tolerance is typically within Delta E 1.5 for coated fabrics, and we state the tolerance on the tech pack so both sides are measuring the same target. Colour on TPU film reads slightly differently from colour on polyester, so we match on the actual production substrate. See colour matching and tolerance.

Q11. Which logo and decoration methods do you offer?

We run screen printing, heat-transfer film, UV digital printing, embroidery, woven labels, silicone and rubber patches, and debossed or moulded badges. On welded TPU and PVC surfaces, screen print and heat-transfer give the best adhesion because they bond to the film rather than sitting on a weave. Embroidery is used on fabric panelling rather than across a water barrier, since needle holes need over-taping to stay sealed. The full option set is on the logo and private label page.

Q12. Do you do private label, OEM and ODM?

All three. Private label means your brand on an existing pattern with your colours and decoration. OEM means we build to your tech pack, materials and tolerances. ODM means you start from one of our existing platforms and we modify dimensions, hardware, closure or materials to suit your market. Packaging, hangtags, barcode labels and care inserts can all carry your brand. The trade-offs between the models are set out in OEM versus ODM and private label versus white label.

Q13. Which certifications and compliance documents can you provide?

Social compliance is audited under amfori BSCI and quality management is certified to ISO 9001:2015. Finished goods can carry CE marking and RoHS-compliant material declarations. For EU-bound orders we supply REACH-testable fabrics and restricted-substance documentation against the ECHA REACH candidate list; for US consumer lines we can address California Prop 65 and issue a Children’s Product Certificate for youth products. GRS-certified RPET is available for recycled-content programmes.

Q14. How do you test that a bag is actually waterproof?

Every sealed style is rated to a defined IP code under IEC 60529 and tested on the production floor. IPX6 covers powerful water jets, IPX7 covers 30 minutes at one metre of submersion and IPX8 covers continuous submersion beyond one metre. We also run hydrostatic head on the fabric to measure millimetres of water resistance, plus a packed-float check on roll-top dry bags because a bag that only seals empty is not field-proof. Welded seams are sampled every two hours during production — the methods are covered in the IPX rating guide.

Q15. Can I arrange third-party inspection before shipment?

Yes, and we encourage it. Our own final inspection is sampled to AQL 2.5 for major defects, and we photograph the loaded container for every shipment. Buyers who want independent oversight can appoint SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek or their own inspector; we provide the carton list and access to the packing floor. Inspection happens after packing and before container loading, and the balance payment can be tied to a passed report. Use the pre-shipment inspection checklist to write your own scope.

Q16. What is your defect rate and what warranty do you offer?

Warranty returns have held below 1.8% across recent shipments, with seam leakage the dominant failure mode when it occurs. We warrant against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for twelve months from delivery under normal use. Defective units are replaced or credited at our cost once the failure mode is confirmed by photo or returned sample, and every confirmed failure is fed back into the specification for the next production run. Failure-mode analysis is documented in the return rate analysis.

Q17. Will you sign an NDA, and is my design protected?

Yes. We sign mutual non-disclosure agreements before you share a tech pack, and for China-specific protection we sign NNN agreements — non-use, non-disclosure, non-circumvention — which are enforceable in Chinese courts, unlike many foreign-drafted NDAs. Patterns, screens and embroidery files created for your project are held for your programme only and are not offered to other buyers. The practical scope of an NNN is explained in IP protection and NNN agreements.

Q18. Who owns the tooling, moulds and print screens?

Tooling you pay for is yours, and we state ownership on the proforma invoice. Dies, cutting patterns, welding jigs and moulded hardware tooling are stored and maintained for your programme and are not reused for another brand without written consent. Where we absorb tooling cost on high-volume programmes, we state the arrangement up front so there is no dispute later. Screens and digitised embroidery files follow the same rule — see who owns the tooling.

Q19. Can I mix sizes or colours within one minimum order quantity?

Colourways within one style are normally combined to reach the 500-piece minimum. Mixing different sizes or different constructions within one order works only when each variant clears its own threshold, because each variant is a separate setup on the cutting and welding line. A practical approach for a first programme is one construction in two colourways at 250 pieces each, then a second style once sell-through data exists. Planning the first drop is covered in SKU and line planning.

Q20. How do I start a project and what should I send?

Email service@junyuanbags.com with target quantity, dimensions, material preference if you have one, closure type, artwork or a reference photo, destination country and target delivery date. A competitor link, a hand sketch or a physical reference sample is enough to start; our team writes the tech pack. You receive a quotation within 24–48 hours, then a sample in 6–10 working days, then bulk in 35–50 days after approval and deposit. The full workflow is on the process page, and our parent company’s general capability sits at JUNYUAN BAGS.
