Custom waterproof tote bags and backpacks are structured, carryable waterproof products — not just sacks — built with handles, straps and pockets while keeping the welded waterproof barrier. QUANZHOU JUNYUAN BAGS customises both formats for beach, commute, hiking and corporate gifting, from a 500-piece MOQ. This page covers tote and backpack options, materials, closures and the differences between the two.

Waterproof tote bags

A waterproof tote is a rigid-base welded bag with webbing handles, designed to be carried by hand or over the shoulder. Totes are the workhorse of beach retail and corporate gifting: large opening, easy to pack, easy to print. Closure options are roll-down or IPX7 zip. We build 15L–30L totes in 0.5–0.9 mm PVC or TPU nylon, with optional internal zip pocket and padded base.

Waterproof backpacks

A waterproof backpack adds a carry system to a welded shell: padded shoulder straps, sternum strap, mesh back panel, and often a laptop sleeve. We build two styles — commuter packs (IPX8 zipper, for rain and urban use) and hiking packs (roll-top, fully welded, for trail and boat). Materials range from lightweight TPU-laminated 840D nylon for premium lines to heavier PVC for budget commuter packs.

Tote vs backpack: which to stock

Totes suit beach, travel and corporate gifting — they print boldly and pack flat for freight. Backpacks suit hiking, commute and bike customers — they carry load on the back and sell at a higher price point. Many brands list both: a printed tote for promos and a backpack for the premium line. Cooler backpacks, detailed on the products page, are a high-margin hybrid.

Materials and ratings

Commuter totes and packs use 0.7–0.9 mm PVC or TPU nylon rated IPX6–IPX7 (rain and spray). Hiking packs use 1.0–1.2 mm TPU nylon rated IPX8. Recycled RPET is available for eco brands under the Textile Exchange GRS. We rate every bag to IEC 60529 and never over-label.

Branding and custom options

Totes take full-surface DTF printing for bold campaigns; backpacks take a sewn woven patch for a premium feel. Both support Pantone-matched colours, custom webbing, reflective strips and internal organisation. Decoration is run in-house so colour matches the approved sample. Tote & backpack FAQ

Can you add a laptop sleeve to a waterproof backpack?

Yes — padded 15-inch laptop sleeves are standard on commuter pack builds.

Are totes fully submersible?

Totes are usually IPX6–IPX7 (rain and spray). For submersion, choose a roll-top dry bag.

What is the MOQ?

500 pcs per SKU. Samples 1–2 pcs in 6–10 days.

Can you print full-surface artwork on totes?

Yes, full-colour DTF is the default for printed beach totes.

Do you ship DDP?

Yes, to 100+ countries with one landed price.

Ergonomics: why backpack construction matters

A waterproof backpack is only useful if it carries well. We build padded, breathable shoulder straps, a sternum strap, a mesh back panel to reduce sweat, and — on hiking models — a hip belt that transfers load to the hips. A welded shell alone is waterproof but uncomfortable if the carry system is an afterthought. We specify strap width and padding to the bag's loaded weight: a 20L day pack uses narrower straps; a 40L expedition pack uses padded hip belts. Tell us how far your customer walks loaded and we will spec the carry system.

Materials, closures and durability

Commuter packs use an IPX8 waterproof zipper for one-handed access; hiking packs use a roll-top for maximum reliability. Shell materials range from 0.7 mm PVC (budget commuter) to 1.2 mm TPU nylon (expedition). We reinforce strap anchors with load-spreading patches and over-tape any stitch line that crosses the waterproof barrier. Every sealed unit is pressure-tested to IEC 60529. For eco brands, RPET recycled TPU is available under the Textile Exchange GRS.

Branding and retail packaging

Totes are the best canvas for full-colour DTF artwork — bold campaigns print beautifully across a flat tote face. Backpacks take a sewn woven patch for a premium outdoor feel. Both support Pantone-matched fabric and webbing, reflective trim, and custom hangtags. Amazon-ready units ship polybagged with FNSKU labels. We ship DDP to 100+ countries with one landed price. Our quality system is ISO 9001:2015-certified and social-compliance audited under amfori BSCI.

Commuter vs hiking backpack — detailed comparison

The two backpack builds solve different problems. A commuter pack is built for a bike or bus in the rain: an IPX8 waterproof zipper for one-handed access, a padded 15-inch laptop sleeve, a bottle pocket, and a slim profile that fits under a desk. A hiking pack is built for the trail and boat: a roll-top closure for maximum reliability, a hip belt, a mesh back panel, and D-rings for attaching gear. If your customer rides in the rain, choose the zip commuter; if they hike or paddle, choose the roll-top hiking pack. We can build a hybrid — zip front pocket plus roll-top main — and we will recommend based on your use case.

Custom options checklist

When you request a quote, decide the following so we can quote accurately: format (tote or backpack), capacity, material grade, closure, handle/strap style, pockets, reflectivity, logo method and position, Pantone colours, and retail packaging. The more you specify, the tighter the first quote. If you are unsure, send a reference bag and we will propose the spec. Read about logo options and MOQ tiers.

Standard dimensions we build

Commuter pack20L45 × 30 × 18 cm
Day-hiking pack25L50 × 30 × 20 cm
Expedition pack40L60 × 35 × 25 cm

Dimensions are a starting point; we cut to your exact specs. Tell us what the customer carries (laptop, towel, camera) and we will size the bag.

Care and after-sales

Rinse saltwater off the welded shell and zippers, dry fully before storage, and avoid prolonged UV exposure. We spec the shell to your warranty window — a promo tote suits a 6–12 month warranty, a TPU nylon hiking pack a multi-year one. Tell us your warranty length at quoting so we build to it. Our overall return rate is below 1.8%.

Why a specialist waterproof factory for totes and packs

A tote or backpack that looks waterproof but is stitched will leak. We build structured carry products on a welded barrier, reinforcing every strap anchor so structural stitching never crosses the waterproof seam. That is a different skill from making a fashion tote. Our welders work TPU/PVC daily, our QC pressure-tests sealed units, and our lead times hold at 35–50 days. Our 200,000 pcs/month SGS-verified capacity means your reorder slots are secure. Compare our pressure-tested sample against any quote — the seam tells the story.

Can you add a hip belt?

Yes, padded hip belts are standard on 30L+ hiking pack builds.

What material for a beach tote?

0.5–0.7 mm PVC or TPU nylon, printed with full-colour DTF.

Are zippers waterproof?

We use IPX8-rated waterproof zippers on commuter packs; roll-tops on hiking packs.

Decoration ideas for totes and backpacks

Totes reward bold decoration: full-surface DTF prints, contrast webbing, and a printed interior lining turn a functional tote into a gift. Backpacks reward understated premium detail: a sewn leather patch, debossed logo, and reflective trim. We can also add a hidden interior pocket, a key clip, or a dedicated laptop sleeve. Tell us how your customer unboxes the bag and we will design the detail that makes it feel considered. See print methods and private label.

Ready to design your tote or pack?

Send us a reference bag or describe how your customer carries it. We will recommend tote versus backpack, size, material and closure, and ship a sample in 6–10 working days. The first revision is free. We build structured waterproof carry products on a welded barrier, so the bag carries well and stays dry. MOQ 500 pcs, DDP to 100+ countries.

Tote and backpack retail channels

Totes sell well in coastal retail, airport stores and corporate gifting. Backpacks sell well in outdoor shops, urban commute stores and online DTC. Cooler backpacks are a high-margin add-on for grocery and beach brands. Tell us where you sell and we will recommend the format, price band and packaging. We ship DDP to 100+ countries and supply the retail paperwork (BSCI, ISO 9001, CE, CPC) to get you on shelf faster.

Tote and backpack MOQ and cost summary

MOQ is 500 pcs per SKU. Commuter zip backpacks cost more than budget PVC totes; TPU nylon hiking packs cost more than PVC. Decoration adds to unit cost — full-surface DTF on a tote is the headline look, a sewn patch on a backpack is the premium look. Samples 6–10 days, bulk 35–50 days, DDP to 100+ countries. Send us your use case and target retail and we will recommend the build.

What to send in your first enquiry

To quote accurately, send: a reference bag or your dimensions, the use case (beach, commute, hiking), material preference, your logo method if known, destination country, and target retail price. If you have a competitor photo, that is enough to start. We will recommend tote versus backpack, size and closure. Samples follow in 6–10 days.

We also supply retail-ready packaging and the compliance paperwork buyers expect. Every sealed unit is pressure-tested to IEC 60529. MOQ 500 pcs, DDP to 100+ countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What sizes do you build for custom waterproof totes and backpacks?

Beach and shopper totes usually run 15L to 30L with a welded base and webbing handles; commuter backpacks run 20L to 30L with a padded laptop sleeve; hiking packs run 30L to 40L with a hip belt. Height, width and gusset are cut to your own pattern rather than scaled from a stock shape, so an oversized 35cm by 40cm market tote or a slim 18L bike commuter pack are both straightforward to tool at 500 pieces.

Q2. Can you make a waterproof backpack comfortable for long carries?

Yes. A welded shell alone carries badly, so we spec the suspension to loaded weight: padded breathable shoulder straps, a sternum strap, a mesh back panel to limit sweat, and a hip belt on hiking models that transfers load off the shoulders. A 20L day pack takes narrower straps; a 40L expedition pack takes a padded hip belt and load lifters. Tell us how far your customer walks loaded and we build the carry system accordingly.

Q3. How waterproof are totes and backpacks compared with dry bags?

A zip or open tote is realistically IPX6 to IPX7: heavy rain, spray and a splash over the side, but not a dunk. TPU hiking packs with a roll-top collar reach IPX8. If your customer will drop the bag in the water, choose a roll-top dry bag instead; totes win on print area and cost, dry bags win on submersion. We rate every unit to IEC 60529 and will never label a bag above what it passes.

Q4. Which fabrics do you recommend for totes versus backpacks?

Commuter totes and day packs typically use 0.7–0.9 mm PVC or TPU-laminated nylon, balancing weight against abrasion resistance. Hiking packs use 1.0–1.2 mm TPU nylon for tear strength and cold-weather flex. Beach totes that need bold campaign artwork take full-surface DTF on PVC. RPET recycled TPU is available with Textile Exchange GRS certification for eco-led lines. We recommend a grade once you share target retail and warranty window.

Q5. What are the MOQ, lead time and shipping terms for totes and backpacks?

MOQ is 500 pieces per SKU. Samples take 6–10 working days and the first revision is free; bulk runs 35–50 days with final inspection to AQL 2.5, then ships DDP to 100+ countries or FOB Xiamen. Payment is T/T 30% deposit, 70% before shipment. Send your reference bag and target use case to service@junyuanbags.com and we reply with recommended specs within 24 hours.
